The Verifiers Jane Pek 5 Stars It's nifty to have a noir detective story with a smart, self-aware protagonist who happens to look like me. And isn't it refreshing that she's just incidentally queer, as in not-the-center-of-her-personal-storyline-gay that causes her no angst. Same with her Asian-ness. It certainly informs who she is — you'd never mistake her for white, or, worse, raceless. There's just no angst. A nice thrilling story about tech and data, but with human-centering. KL 1/16/23
